英文方位介系詞用法整理
今天整理國中英文當中，表示方位，也就是位置關係的介系詞。
前後、左右、上下，這些相反的方位，我會放在一起整理。這樣比較容易記，也比較不會背到最後，連自己站在哪裡都搞不清楚。
這篇的重點很簡單：先掌握每個介系詞的基本意思，再透過例句理解它在句子中的位置。
表示前後的介系詞
表示前後位置時，最常見的是 in front of 和 behind。
in front of：在……前面
behind：在……後面
in front of 表示在某人或某物的前方。
There is a cat in front of my car.
有一隻貓在我的車前面。
behind 則表示在某人或某物的後方。
Don’t stand behind me!
不要站在我身後！
「在……後面」有時也會看到 in back of，但在國中英文與一般使用中，behind 更常見，也比較建議優先記 behind。
in front of 表示外部前方。
behind 表示後方。
in back of 也可以表示後方，但 behind 更常見。
表示左右的介系詞
表示左邊與右邊時，常用 on the left、on one’s left、on the right、on one’s right。
on the left：在左邊
on one’s left：在某人的左邊
on the right：在右邊
on one’s right：在某人的右邊
on the left 表示「在左側」，on one’s left 則表示「在某人的左邊」。
Let me introduce the speaker sitting on my left.
讓我來介紹坐在我左邊的講者。
Please take the second one on the left.
請拿左側第二個。
on the right 和 on one’s right 則是右邊的用法。
My wife is the woman standing on my right in the photo.
我的太太是照片中站在我右邊的女人。
Please take the second one on the right.
請拿右側第二個。
記憶方式很簡單：左邊、右邊都用 on，後面接 the left、my left、the right、your right 等表達。
表示上下的介系詞
表示上下位置時，最基本的是 on 和 under。
on：在……上面
under：在……下面
on 表示在某物表面上，通常有接觸。
The naughty guy is standing on the desk.
這個調皮的傢伙正站在講桌上面。
under 表示在某物下方。
What are you doing under the table?
你在桌子底下做什麼？
on 和 under 是國中英文很早就會遇到的介系詞，但也很常出現在閱讀測驗與生活對話中。
表示旁邊的介系詞
表示在旁邊時，常用 next to。
next to：在……旁邊
例句：
Can I stand next to you?
我可以站在你旁邊嗎？
next to 通常表示距離很近，中文常翻成「在……旁邊」或「緊鄰……」。
The bank is next to the post office.
銀行在郵局旁邊。
表示兩者之間的介系詞
between 表示「在……之間」，通常用在兩者之間，也可以表示兩個範圍端點之間。
between A and B：在 A 和 B 之間
例句：
Peter stands between two beautiful girls.
Peter 站在兩個漂亮女生的中間。
The mountain is between Pingtung and Taitung.
這座山在屏東與台東之間。
between 的重點是「在兩者或兩個端點之間」，所以常搭配 and。
between Pingtung and Taitung

between 的延伸用法
除了方位之外，between 也可以指各種層面上的「之間」，例如兩個時間之間、人與人之間，或一個範圍之間。
I weigh between 70 and 75 kilograms.
我的體重介於 70 到 75 公斤之間。
這裡的 between 表示一個數字範圍。
There is no distance between you and me.
我們之間沒有距離。
這裡要注意，between 是介系詞，所以後面要用受格 me，而不是 I。
正確：between you and me
不建議：between you and I
The restaurant is closed for dinner between 20:00 and 20:30.
這家餐廳晚上 8 點到 8 點半之間暫停晚餐服務。
這裡的 between 表示兩個時間點之間。
方位介系詞總表
以下整理本文出現的方位介系詞，方便一次複習。

這些介系詞看起來不多，但非常常用。尤其在描述地點、找路、看圖說話、閱讀測驗時，幾乎一定會遇到。
方位介系詞與時間介系詞
除了表示方位的介系詞之外，表示地點、時間的介系詞也很重要。
其中，時間介系詞 in、on、at 是國中英文很容易搞混的文法。
in 常用於一段時間，例如 in July、in the morning、in 2021。
on 常用於特定日期或星期，例如 on Friday、on July 5。
at 常用於特定時刻，例如 at 6 o’clock、at noon。
介系詞雖然難背又容易搞混，但是還是要把它記起來。多念、多看英文文章，常常在文章當中看到，很快就會開始有感覺。
介系詞最像英文裡的小零件，單獨看很不起眼，但少一個就容易整句歪掉。
